Avon MLM Review

Selling Avon products may sound like an easy way to make extra money in your spare time. After all, everyone has heard of Avon, so the products sell themselves, right? Maybe. Just because a name is well-known does not mean you can make money selling its products. In this Avon MLM review, we will take a look at how good their products actually are and whether you should take the risk of selling them. Let's start with how it all began.

What is Avon?

Avon was founded back in 1886 and is one of the oldest skin care companies. Over the years, the company has expanded to other product lines outside of makeup and skincare. These products are now available in over 70 countries around the world.

In 2019, Avon generated $5.57 billion in annual sales worldwide. This makes Avon the second largest direct selling company in the world, surpassed only by Amway. It is the fourteenth largest cosmetics company.

Are Avon Products Worth Their Price?

The Avon product line includes products for women, men, vitamin supplements, jewelry, special holiday promotions, and home products such as candles, cooking and baking products and more. Below are prices for some of the eye care products.

Avon's products have a pretty good reputation. Their best-selling products are in the makeup line. There are similar products on the market that are cheaper. As you can see from the image above, all the products have a 4+ star rating and have been reviewed by hundreds of customers.

The Avon Opportunity

Avon products have traditionally been sold by women in the past. But now men can jump on the Avon bandwagon, too, because there is now a men's line. New Representatives receive free online support and training, social media tips, and a personal online store.

Representatives make commissions on products sold through them. Sales can be made through direct contact or through a personal website link.

You can also earn more money by recruiting others to join you. These recruits become part of your downline and report to you. In addition, you get a share of all the sales your recruits make.

How Much Does It Cost To Join Avon?

You can sign up with a Representative or online. You must purchase a starter kit for $30. There are three kits to choose from depending on the products you want to sell. The three kits are: Belif in your Truth Kit, Bestsellers Kit and the Color Kit.

You should also be aware of the hidden expenses you’ll incur. You will not be reimbursed for any personal expenses such as gas expenses, phone calls, etc.

Can You Make Money With Avon?

The initial commission is 25%. Avon also offers other incentives, such as Milestone and Stepping Stone Bonuses which will be discussed later. Since Avon is such a well-known brand, it may be easier to sell products. Almost everyone has heard of Avon. The products also have a good reputation for the most part.

Below is an overview of the commissions and bonuses you can receive based on your sales.

As you can see, Avon commissions and bonuses are a little more generous than other MLMs.

Pros of Avon

Representative Discounts: all Representatives receive a 25% discount on their own orders over $40.

Milestone and Stepping Stone Bonuses: Representatives can earn a $50 bonus when they achieve their first $500 in sales during the incentive period. Earn a $20 bonus for every $200 in reward sales.

Better Commissions: According to Avon, new Representatives can earn an average of $112 in their first 8 campaigns (Avon's 2-week selling periods).

Online and In Person Sales: Avon Representatives generate additional sales by providing their customers with the link to their online store. This increases sales in less time.

Cons of Avon

You Pay Expenses:  All commissions granted do not include expenses you incur, such as travel, gasoline, telephone, etc. You are also responsible for purchasing basic office supplies and samples.

Allergic Reactions: Some products, such as eye cream, have caused allergic reactions. Some customers complained of burns around the eyes and red, flaky skin.

Reps Pay Shipping: For customer orders under $60, the rep pays shipping.

Credit Card: Avon doesn't check your credit, but you must have a credit card. This can be a deal breaker for some.

Is Avon A Scam?

Avon is probably one of the most well-known and popular MLM companies and has a good reputation. Avon is very open about policies, buying products and applying to be a representative.

But to make money, you want to make sure you spend as little money as possible on non-refundable expenses. This can lead to reps pushing their customers to buy more products so they do not have to pay shipping.

Final Thoughts

Let's not kid ourselves here. Avon is an MLM (multi-level marketing) company. And with an MLM, all the pressure is on the Representative. Selling Avon products is perhaps a better opportunity than other MLMs. Your success depends entirely on the amount of sales you make. You also have to keep in mind that hidden expenses eat up your commissions. This can become quite discouraging.
